Through the Years: Top 2016 Books

The year isn’t over yet but quickly coming to a close! Most people have begun moving on to 2017 (including myself) but there are still SO MANY fun 2016 books out and coming out!

2016 was an amazing year for books! I’m still blown away by all the awesomeness! This means that you’ll have to sit tight because there are A LOT of books on this list!

    1. Sounds weird and creepy as fuck.
    2. Like the perfect October read.
    3. Author is an adorable ball of sunshine.
  2. Beyond the Red by Ava Jae
    Beyond the Red (Beyond the Red, #1)

    1. Aliens.
    2. POC sci-fi
    3. There’s a cat (according to Aila).
    4. Romance? *wiggles eyebrows*.
  3. Timekeeper by Tara Sim
    Timekeeper (Timekeeper, #1)

    1. Concept is spot on.
    2. Clocks control time.
    3. Cute fucking m/m romance.
    4. Colton will literally be your son.
  4. The Sun Is Also A Star by Nicola Yoon
    The Sun Is Also a Star

    1. Also cute AF (just assume that of 2016?)
    2. both characters are my literal kids.
    3. Don’t even realize it’s instalove because you just want them to be happy and you’ll probably be crying for like 2000000000% of the book.
  5. The Abyss Surrounds Us by Emily Skrutskie

    1. Pirates
    2. cute f/f (pretty sure)

    5. Short read
    6. everything you want in a book.
  6. Stalking Jack The Ripper by Kerry Maniscalco

    1. Took off like a rocket
    2. Apparently, there are really fun characters.
    3. Also, serial killers, bomb as fudge.
  7. Metaltown by Kristen Simmons

    1. Standalone so you aren’t waiting for 40000000 sequels.
    2. friendship
    3. rebellion
    4. steampunk?
  8. Truthwitch by Susan Dennard
    Truthwitch (The Witchlands, #1)

    1. HAHA you thought I wasn’t going to do this one, you fool?
    2. The power of fucking friendship.
    3. Not literal fucking friendship, that’d be ok though…
    4. Slowburn romance that I am 10000% on board for.
  9. Passenger by Alexandra Bracken
    Passenger (Passenger, #1)

    1. I didn’t expect to like this book as much as I did?
    2. Cute, CUTE romance.
    3. Travel to awesome places.
    4. Heartwrenching shit all around that made me sob like a little baby because why not?
  10. The Star Touched Queen by Roshani Chokshi
    The Star-Touched Queen (The Star-Touched Queen, #1)

    1. Cover and writing as pretty as the nice lady who wrote it.
    2. Story magical as fuck your mind will be BLOWN.
    3. I love the horse, she’s my favorite.
  11. Ever the Hunted by Erin Summerill
    Ever the Hunted (Clash of Kingdoms, #1)

    1. sparkling white cover.
    2. Bounty hunter.
    3. Coworker said “like hunger games if Gale and Katniss had gotten together” both yikes and intriguing.
  12. Nevernight by Jay Kristoff
    Nevernight (The Nevernight Chronicle, #1)

    1. Much love to this book, one of the best books of 2016 let’s be real.
    2. This book is too fucking honest for a fantasy book.
    3. Characters are harcore
    4. Intense as fuck.
    5. World building level unattainable by anyone else ever.
    6. I cried like twice but it was very intense crying.
  13. The Girl From Everywhere by Heidi Heilig
    The Girl from Everywhere (The Girl from Everywhere, #1)

    1. AKA my comfort book.
    2. Nix’s struggles are real.
    3. But also not.
    4. She has the most legit existential crisis ever.
    5. The Existential crisis to win them all.
  14. Blackhearts by Nicole Castroman
    Blackhearts (Blackhearts, #1)

    1. Pirates
    2. I’ve heard it has really cute romance and the ending is killer.
    3. I feel like I should hate it because it sounds romance oriented
    4. And “only she can change him”?
    5. But no I’m sitting here thinking “whatever fuck me up I don’t even CARE”
  15. A Shadow Bright and Burning by Jessica Cluess
    A Shadow Bright and Burning (Kingdom on Fire, #1)

    1. Henrietta is a killer name, especially if you pronounce it the fun, French way.
    2. This is another romance oriented one that I’m just willing to let it fuck me up, why do these all sound so intriguing, I’m suing.
    3. Sorcery.
  16. Of Fire and Stars by Audrey Coulthurst
    Of Fire and Stars

    1. F/F romance
    2. Horses
    3. Sounds cute af but my copy is at my sister’s house RIP.


I assure you there are thousands more that I didn’t add on that are still amazing and great and tear worthy!

  1. FEAR THE DROWNING DEEP WAS AMAZING OMG. And Kamala is my favorite flesh-eating horse in the entire bookverse. Honestly, 2016 and 2017 are going to destroy the book community with awesomeness.
